*The Brave Thing* follows a teenage girl struggling with fear and uncertainty about facing the world on her own. Seeking reassurance from her loving grandmother, she admits that she doesn’t know whether she is strong enough to handle life’s expectations, failures, and heartbreak. Her grandmother reminds her that courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s choosing to move forward despite it, knowing that the people who love her will always be with her. When her mother enters the room dressed in black, the girl turns to discover her grandmother’s chair is empty, revealing that their conversation has been a memory or imagined final moment with her. Grieving but strengthened by her grandmother’s words, she takes her mother’s hand and finds the courage to step forward, carrying her grandmother’s love and wisdom with her as she faces what comes next.
