Michael and Jackie are on what appears to be an early, tentative date at a restaurant, easing into the kind of small talk (how they know each other, how they got into their jobs) that suggests they don't know each other that well yet. A waiter interrupts to deliver a surprise cake and candle, wishing the "couple" a happy anniversary, a mix-up caused by Michael accidentally noting a fake anniversary on the reservation. Rather than correct it, Michael leans into the bit, and Jackie catches on and plays along, and the two improvise a whole fictional relationship history on the spot (including how many years they've "been together"), turning the awkward mix-up into a shared joke that visibly deepens their connection. Outside the restaurant, the flirtation becomes real: Michael asks to see her again, floating the joke that they'll "celebrate their third anniversary" next time. The comedic bit becomes a sincere, sweet beat, and they share a quiet, charged moment and a hug, ending the date on a note of mutual, unspoken interest. It's a short two-hander built around a meet-cute mix-up: light, warm, dialogue-driven romantic comedy that leans on chemistry and timing rather than plot
