In many parts of the world, March signifies the transition from winter to spring. With flowers beginning to bloom, there’s a sense of renewal that cannot be mistaken. It’s a great time to jump into fresh opportunities such as networking and creative expression. March has holidays and observances (not to mention the Oscars) that will keep your social calendar full, so get out there and make some noise!
Insights: How to Get the Most Out of Your March
- Refresh your acting materials and stay prepared for quick audition turnarounds.
- Network at spring events and explore outdoor performance opportunities.
- Keep fit with exercise, protect your voice and practice daily gratitude.
Advice & Inspiration:
1. Embrace the Energy of Renewal. Use this time to update your goals. Now is a great time to shift your mindset and career approach. Revitalize your passion, skill set, and industry presence. Discover how to make bold appearances during auditions by having “study” groups with fellow actors.
2. Revamp Your Audition Material. It’s a great time to refresh your monologues, scenes, and self-tape setup. Experiment with new material that showcases your range. With warmer weather, you can use outdoor lighting and a natural scenic background for self-tapes. Learn more about self-tapes here.
3. Step Into the Spring Spotlight. Warmer weather means outdoor performance opportunities. Look for street theater, open mic nights, or film projects that take advantage of the season.
4. Make Luck Happen. Believe in yourself and create your own luck. Submit to that casting call, reach out to that agent, and put yourself out there. Better yet, have fun with this task!
5. Stay Ready for Last-Minute Opportunities. The tail-end of pilot season is here, and projects still need actors. Keep all your gear ready for quick turnarounds when you receive that exciting email or call.
6. Network with Spring in Your Step. Industry mixers and festivals pick up in March. Time tends to slip by quickly, so keep up a fast pace so as not to fall behind. You can find events on Facebook and Eventbrite.
7. Do a Creative Cleanse. March is a great time to declutter your mind. As hard as it may be, let go of self-doubt, comparison, and old habits. Here’s a book to help: Stop Overthinking: 23 Techniques to Relieve Stress, Stop Negative Spirals, Declutter Your Mind, and Focus on the Present (The Path to Calm)
8. Experiment with a New Acting Technique. Challenge yourself to learn about and implement different acting techniques such as Meisner, Method, or Chekhov. This book, The Technique of Acting, will get you started.
9. Find Your Unique Voice in Voiceover Work: Take a spin at voicing audiobooks. The audiobook market continues to boom, so opportunities are just waiting to be snatched. Amazon’s Audible has information on how to become a narrator for their Audible Creator Exchange (ACX).
10. Train Like an Athlete. Acting can be physical: Stay healthy and keep your stamina up so you’re always ready for stage and screen work. Also, working on your breath control should be part of your everyday routine. Check out this book: A Practical Guide to Breathwork
11. Make March the Month of Momentum. Baby steps lead to bigger and better steps. Take one step forward every day, whether it’s rehearsing, submitting for a role (or more!), or making past and new connections.

26. Gratitude and Manifestation Practice: Write down three things you’re grateful for each morning, visualize your dream role, performance or collaboration, and speak positive affirmations like “I am ready for the right opportunities.” This Manifestation book comes in handy!
