A European girl, Anya, is seduced by an American man named Nick and becomes pregnant before marriage. In order to fulfill Nick’s promise, she is smuggled into the United States. At Nick’s house, she works as a nanny and housekeeper for three years but never receives legal status. Nick’s family even presents her to others as “the help,” and her daughter Tasha also suffers mistreatment. Unable to bear being separated from her child, Anya becomes desperate — but Nick reports her to ICE, nearly causing her deportation and forced separation from her daughter. At this time, a legendary fire captain named Dalton, who has been injured and moved off the front lines but unexpectedly promoted, proposes to Anya. To avoid being deported, Anya agrees to marry him. What begins as a transactional marriage slowly turns into real love between the two.
