This PSA is part of a First 5 California campaign focused on helping parents understand how to prevent toxic stress response in their children. The spot introduces the idea of ""pivoting""—recognizing when your own emotions are taking over and making the conscious choice to refocus on your child's needs. In the :30 video, our main character Rick struggles to get his energetic five-year-old son, Noah, to settle down for bed. As work and financial pressures consume Rick's thoughts, he loses his patience and walks away, leaving Noah upset. Alone in the hallway, Rick realizes he brought his own stress into the room. He pivots, goes back in the room, and reconnects with his son.
