After Army Ranger Sergeant Jake Carter sacrifices his arm to save his brothers-in-arms Nick Gallo, Jamal Scott, and Tony Rodriguez, the men promise they will always be there for him. Nine years later, Jake is presumed dead after a cancer-related suicide attempt, leaving his wife Sarah and young daughter Callie vulnerable to violent loan shark Richie Sortino. When Callie calls “Uncle Nick” for help, Nick, Jamal, and Tony come roaring back into the Carter family’s life, rescuing Sarah and Callie from Richie’s abuse and taking down the Sortino threat. But Jake has secretly survived, escaping a black-market organ harvesting operation with trauma, memory loss, and violence in his wake. When he finally finds his family, he discovers Sarah and Nick have grown emotionally close in his absence, forcing all of them to confront grief, guilt, love, PTSD, and what it truly means to be family, brothers, and protectors.
