Evelyn Shaw
About the Job
Evelyn Shaw, 32, is a promising actress from Dallas beginning a new life and career in Los Angeles in 1952. Intelligent, stylish, perceptive, and emotionally volatile, Evelyn has recently entered the social world surrounding the Sunset Strip. What began as observation has become competition. After leaving a glamorous party, Evelyn confronts Julian over his attention toward a younger woman. Her jealousy gradually exposes a deeper fear that beauty, youth, and social status have begun replacing the artistic purpose that brought her to Los Angeles. The performance requires strong listening, controlled emotional escalation, sharp conversational timing, and the ability to move from defensive wit into genuine vulnerability. Evelyn is intoxicated, but she should never become sloppy, cartoonish, or melodramatic. The period should be suggested through diction, rhythm, composure, and emotional restraint. Do not imitate a specific classic Hollywood actress. A natural Dallas influence is welcome but a strong Southern accent is not required. This is currently a paid private developmental table read for script evaluation. It is not a public release or final film production.
