When Nancy’s estranged husband shows up at her mother’s house without warning, Nancy’s mom immediately falls back on her traditional beliefs. She insists, “He’s your husband,” brushing aside Nancy’s discomfort and treating his sudden arrival as something Nancy should accept. She means well, but her refusal to question his behavior — or to prioritize Nancy’s boundaries — gives him silent permission to step back into the home.
