4 New Series Streaming in September 2022 You Won’t Want to Miss

With the month of September comes some big-name series for which many fans have been patiently waiting. From the worlds of Lord of the Rings to Star Wars — with some unique new shows in between — this month’s installment of 4 New Series comes with some must-see titles, as well as the performances to watch in each.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
Tolkien fans, rejoice! The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is finally coming to a screen near you. Prime Video’s long-awaited series is set during the Second Age of Middle-earth’s history, thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. The plot is still being kept largely under wraps, but Prime Video promises an epic drama that extends “from the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor to the furthest reaches of the map.”  Plus, you can anticipate how the upcoming series will bring to life “the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen.” The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on Prime Video come September 2, at which time you can take in performances from an ensemble cast that includes names like Morfydd Clark, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, and Ismael Cruz Córdova.

Wedding Season
This upcoming Hulu series is a genre-busting romp of a whodunnit. Wedding Season follows Katie (Rosa Salazar) and Stefan (Gavin Drea), two people who fall for each other and begin an affair, despite the former’s engagement to another man. Then after Katie’s wedding takes place and her new husband — as well as his entire family — are murdered, Stefan becomes a prime suspect in the case. But he defends his innocence while believing she’s actually the culprit, and no one’s quite sure what the truth is in the action-packed comedy that takes viewers across the UK and the US. Besides the two leads, you can also can an eye out for performances from the likes of Jade Harrison, Jamie Michie, Callie Cooke, Bhav Joshi, Ioanna Kimbrook, and Omar Baroud when Wedding Season premieres on Hulu come September 8.

Last Light
Lost fans may very well be anticipating the return of Matthew Fox — aka Jack Shephard — to TV. He’s starring as a petro-chemist named Andy Yeats in the upcoming Peacock series, which follows the chain of events set off after the world’s oil supply is put in jeopardy. Last Light is also part family drama, and the official synopsis promises that “amid this chaos, each [Yeats] family member will sacrifice everything to find one another, despite the distance and the dangers that separate them.” You can catch Joanne Froggatt as Andy’s wife Elena, Alyth Ross as their daughter Laura, and Taylor Fay as their son Sam when Last Light drops on Peacock come September 8.

Andor
The latest series from Lucasfilm explores a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, with Diego Luna leading as Cassian Andor. The upcoming show follows his journey to learning the difference he can make in the midst of the budding rebellion against the Empire, and Disney+ teases a premise “filled with danger, deception, and intrigue.” You can also anticipate a cast list stacked with A-listers that include names like Stellan Skarsgård and Forest Whitaker when Andor premieres on the streamer come September 21.

Whether you choose The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Wedding Season, Last Light or Andor for your September watchlist — or all four — you can enter into the month with our top picks of the new series premiering on streamers that are full of notable performances to watch.
