About the Job
Indo-Guyanese, female. An emotionally stunted mom and eldest daughter with an underappreciated humor, Vedo is a Guyanese immigrant who has now lived in New York City longer than in her homeland. Overworked and neglected due to impoverished conditions and having to step in as makeshift dad, she was forced to grow up fast and believes being loved means being useful. Fiercely fashionable and coldly protective, she is independent in all the ways a single mother is forced to be but has hardened the way she loves - it hasn’t hardened the fact that she wants to be loved. Devotion and desire are a thin line for Vedo - she is a devout Hindu and a religious 70s Bollywood film rewatcher/escapist — and that is why she is never wrong about life choices or karma (she’s seen it all!) This role requires strong control/precision of emotional expression and restraint through physicality (facial expressions) and range of anger – should be able to code-switch into and out of Guyanese creolese seamlessly.
