Ed Rock
When ED ROCK — a long-haired analog rocker who's never opened a social media account — meets DONNIE, a wounded tech prodigy out to settle a score with the music industry that dropped him, Donnie quietly engineers Ed into a manufactured viral phenomenon. Doctored metrics. A.I.-generated podcasts in Ed's own voice. Millions of fake followers. Sold-out shows that get shut down for "overcapacity" before Ed ever sings a note. Overnight, Ed Rock is the most talked-about name on the internet. The only problem is almost none of it is real — and Ed just wants people to hear his songs. As the manufactured fame spirals, Ed falls for TIFFANY SHAPIRO — the rare A&R executive who can still tell a song from a stunt, and the daughter of the label mogul trying to sign him — and stumbles into a quiet friendship with RICK, a Sunset Strip survivor running a vinyl store on South Congress. Rick recognizes the lightning bolt necklace around Ed's throat the moment he sees it. He says nothing about why. When the lie collapses in public, Ed loses everything that was never really his — and finally has to face what he's allowed to happen. A climactic SXSW performance, against a crowd that's seen the takedown videos and read the comments, forces him to strip the spectacle away and prove what he's been saying all along: music isn't an algorithm.
