Pining In Prickly Pear Patch
Welcome to Prickly Pear Patch, a tiny town out West where the cowgirls are rough and tumble, the barkeep is tough and humble, the saloon dancers get rowdy, and the tumbleweeds* say howdy. This rollicking melodrama is full of romance, villainy, and classic Americana folk songs fitted out with new lyrics. Audience participation is encouraged! You are genially invited to laugh, cheer, boo, and sigh and cry along. Come for the song and dance, stay for the cheesy romance. The genders may be swapped, but the tropes remain! Our villain may be a lady, but that won’t stop her from twirling her mustache and swirling her cape! Our damsel may be a manly man, but that won’t stop his broad shoulders from drooping in dismay and distress! And our hero may be a feminine feminist, but that won’t prevent her from riding to the rescue in dashing acts of derring-do! Will there be song and dance to set your toes a’tapping? You betcha! Will there be nonstop jokes and fun? Absotively posolutely! Will there be a thoughtful reflection on gender in today’s society? You be the judge! *There will be no talking tumbleweeds in this production.
