Tiffany Company Casting is looking for families planning to give their child their first phone in 2025. ____________________ SYNOPSIS - We are looking for parents that are considering purchasing a phone for their child (10-14yrs) within the next year to participate in a unique documentary project exploring the pivotal moment when kids receive their first smartphones from their families The film will follow five families before, during, and after their kids get their first phones (phone will be provided) We are interested in families who represent a wide range of viewpoints about smartphones. Whether you are apprehensive about technology or a devoted digital enthusiast, we would love to hear from your family if there is a FIRST PHONE for your child coming into view PLEASE MARK IN THE SUBMISSION NOTES YOUR CHILDS AGE THAT WILL RECEIVE THE PHONE ________________________ ----->>> please read below from the directors *** Dear parents and guardians, Thank you for taking the time to read about our project! Our film is about a subject that is on the mind of so many families today: giving kids their first smartphone. In the US, 95% of kids have a phone by the time they’re teenagers. Some parents can be reluctant about smartphones, while most kids can’t wait to get them, and for many families it’s another one of those things that just sort of happens when the timing feels right. Yet, no documentary has ever tried to tell this story or explore how families today navigate this new milestone. We are two filmmakers who have been working together for over ten years since meeting at film school. We’re Millennials, and when we grew up getting our driver’s licenses at age sixteen was our big coming-of-age milestone. For kids today, it’s getting their first phone. Both of us got our ‘learner’s permit’ when we were fifteen and-a-half, which allowed us to drive a car before we were sixteen, but only while accompanied by an adult. That experience was part of the inspiration for our film: What if for the first month of smartphone use, kids got a special phone that could be supervised later by their parents? How will parents feel when they see what kids have been doing on their devices? How will kids feel knowing their parents are able to see what’s on their phones? And can this experience lead to teachable moments for both parents, children, and audiences? The goal of My First Phone is to create a relatable and insightful documentary that demystifies the experience of kids getting their first phones. - Directors Mishka Kornai & Zach Wechter
