Synopsis:

Witch Queen is a horror-comedy murder mystery about an elite coven of powerful, petty, competitive witches. When a killer strikes during their annual winter sabbath meeting, their witchy world descends into a campy bloodbath of suspicion, magic, dysfunction, and pure unhinged delight. Their newest member—anxious, underestimated, and unsure if she belongs—might be the only one who can solve the murders… and step into her power as the next Witch Queen.

Project Notes

Director Bio: Brian McIlroy is a writer/director and Los Angeles native with an affinity for horror, humor, and mutant weirdness. In film school, his dramatic shorts starred fellow weirdlings like James Duval (The Doom Generation, Independence Day) and Ryn Weaver (Interscope Records). When he is not dreaming up new ways to entertain freaks and oddballs (or obsessing about music), he has worked as a script doctor on movie projects you have probably seen or heard whispered about. His work includes the YA urban fantasy novel Hunting for Witches – Salem’s Burning, The Many Lives of Ayn Winters for Sony PlayStation, and various projects for horror directing duo, The Vicious Brothers (Grave Encounters). Director’s Statement: You know that comfort-horror movie you put on when the world feels like too much? The one that makes you laugh and cringe and cackle because it reminds you that chaos is survivable—and that being weird is a kind of power? We’re making that movie. A new cult classic. A trash-glam treasure. A midnight howl of joy for the outcasts. It’s John Waters meets Dragula, Clue meets The VVitch, With a dash of Heathers and Jawbreaker, plus a sloppy kiss from Evil Dead 2. This film is for the ones who grew up as the “too much” kids—too witchy, too queer, too dramatic, too sensitive, too loud, too strange. And then we found our people. We found the freak family who loved us because we were weird, not despite it. This film is a tribute to that feeling: That scrappy, filthy, beautiful sense of belonging that horror fans, queer kids, punks, drag artists, and goths know in their bones. It’s a story about self-doubt, chosen family, and stepping into the version of yourself you were always meant to be—even if you have to fight a murderous demon, an army of ghosts, and a killer clown to do it.
