Project Notes

Our host begins his scooter tour of Wynwood, narrating in English the fascinating transformation of the neighborhood: from an industrial zone to a vibrant cultural and gastronomic district, driven by Latin migration since the 1950s. Next, he introduces a fun challenge: Wynwood is the ideal place to learn how to greet people in Spanish. During the journey, he enters different iconic venues and spaces in the neighborhood, where he meets Latinos who teach him the typical greetings from their countries of origin. For example, in a Dominican restaurant he learns “¡Qué lo qué!”, in an art gallery run by Cubans he picks up the classic “¡Asere, qué bola!”, and in a clothing store managed by Venezuelans they explain “¡Epa, chamo!”. In this way, he collects a variety of greetings that showcase the richness and diversity of Latin American Spanish in Miami. To wrap up, the host joins a graffiti workshop, one of Wynwood’s top attractions, where local artists teach him how to paint some of the greetings he has learned onto the walls, blending art and Latin culture in a unique and colorful experience.
