This project is a period “talking portrait” video installation in which the founding physician Thomas Bond appears to come to life within a historic museum setting. Portrayed by a middle-aged male actor with presence and gravitas, Bond delivers a series of short standalone reflections that illuminate his work, values, and contributions to early American medicine. Speaking directly to visitors, he shares measured, thoughtful insights about collaboration, innovation, and care, from supporting smallpox inoculation to advancing clinical teaching and medical transparency. Each line stands on its own, offering audiences brief, intimate moments with a figure from the past while maintaining a tone that is historically elevated yet accessible and conversational, in the spirit of John Adams era storytelling. Visually, the portrait will awaken to deliver a line, then return to stillness before reanimating again, creating a seamless looping experience within the museum installation. The result is a living historical encounter that blends performance, education, and atmosphere, inviting visitors to feel as though they are in the presence of one of the hospital’s earliest guiding voices.
