Late afternoon. Mom is mid-prep when her teenage son casually blurts out: “Mom, Sawyer and Mikey are staying for dinner.” No panic. No frustration. Just a quick mental recalibration. Mom instinctively pulls out more meat. Adjusts portions. Keeps moving. The kitchen fills with teenage energy, laughter, backpacks dropped, kids opening the fridge without asking.
