Synopsis:

It’s not promised that life gets better when circumstances need opportunity...but it definitely won’t be boring. Sex and Candy follows Nikki Frasier, a recently widowed vocalist who takes a job as the new live entertainment at The Velvet Room. An illegal brothel operating under velvet drapes, dim lights, and very few illusions. A mother by day and chanteuse by night, Nikki quickly learns that grief doesn’t pay rent...but chaos might. As she navigates the seductive unpredictability of the house, Nikki becomes entangled in the lives, secrets, hustles, and survival tactics of the women who work there. What begins as a temporary gig slowly morphs into something far more intoxicating. The deeper Nikki is pulled into the wild, transactional underworld of gang politics and sex work culture, the more her carefully compartmentalized double life begins to fray - and the more alive she feels. At its core, Sex and Candy is a sharp, satirical examination of the human experience. It explores survival versus self-destruction, the thin line between empowerment and exploitation, and what it truly means to reclaim your identity after your world has been turned upside down. Through Nikki and the women of The Velvet Room, the series dissects the power of choice - especially when the “right” choice was never actually on the table. Life may not promise redemption. It may not promise safety. But it will absolutely deliver a story. And this one wears heels.

This is a 13-episode short-form series designed to blend sharp satire with grounded character storytelling. While the subject matter exists within an adult world, the priority is creating a production environment that is safe, respectful, and empowering for everyone involved -particularly the women at the center of the story. The producing team would like to be very clear: this set will operate as a protected, collaborative space. An experienced Intimacy Coordinator will be present for any scenes requiring physical proximity or suggestive content, and will remain available throughout the shoot for support, guidance, and advocacy. All staging will be carefully choreographed, discussed in advance, and executed only within clearly established boundaries. At this time, there is no full nudity written into the script. Some scenes include lingerie and boudoir-style wardrobe (lace, stylized undergarments, implied sensuality), but all costuming and framing will be approached tastefully and will remain fully subject to performer comfort. Nothing will be filmed without thorough conversation and consent between the actor, Director, and Intimacy Coordinator. The goal of this series is not to objectify women, but to satirize the environments that often attempt to. They aim to create comedy with bite - humor that exposes absurdity - while portraying women as layered, intelligent, strategic, vulnerable, and powerful. This is a story about agency, survival, and perspective, told through satire - not exploitation. Think Weeds meets Orange Is The New Black vibes for reference.
