Eli Mercer, a shy 26-year-old, finally works up the courage to pursue his coworker KiKi only to lose her to a violent crime before he can tell her how he feels. Devastated by regret, Eli orders an AI companion designed in KiKi's image. At first, Robot KiKi is everything he dreamed of: understanding, patient, always there. But as she learns to anticipate his every need and shield him from pain, Eli finds himself trapped in a perfect prison of his own making, choosing safety over the messy, vulnerable reality of human connection.
