Despite Brian's calm explanations that he is driving his girlfriend's car and caring for her white, blond baby, Karen escalates the encounter by accusing him of kidnapping and radioing in a false "hostage situation" based solely on racial prejudice. The situation is resolved when Brian's girlfriend's father, Chief Henderson—who is Karen's superior and has been listening to the interaction over the phone—arrives to reveal the baby is his grandson and the car is his own. Henderson promptly suspends Karen for racial profiling and unlawful detainment, concluding the story with a message that such profiling is a conscious choice rather than an instinct.
