9 Lives is a quiet, introspective drama told through the diary of a teenage girl, whose voice carries the story from beginning to end. At first, her relationship feels easy and full of small, happy moments. But as her boyfriend’s illness worsens, everything begins to change. Dates turn into hospital visits, and thoughtful gifts are replaced with medicine and care. Without realizing it, she starts to feel more like a caretaker than a girlfriend, holding onto what they had while slowly losing it at the same time. After he passes away, she is left with a complicated kind of grief. She is not only mourning his death, but also the version of their relationship that disappeared long before he was gone. Hoping to move forward, she begins writing a series of nine diary entries, each one imagining a different life she wishes she had lived. Through these entries, she reflects on the choices she made, the moments she wishes she could change, and the love she is still trying to understand. What begins as a way to escape her grief slowly becomes a way to face it. She ends her diary with one final realization: “And I realized that even with 9 lives, I would’ve wanted you in every single one.” 9 Lives explores how love can shift under pressure, and how loss can reshape the way we remember, regret, and heal.
