Grandma / Bingo Lady
About the Job
A sweet, diminutive older woman with strong comedic instincts for a :30 commercial. She should look and feel like the sweetest little grandmother imaginable — warm, innocent, charming and unassuming. Think cardigan, glasses, neatly styled hair, sweet smile, petite presence. The more wholesome and adorable she appears, the better. The comedy comes from the contrast: despite her incredibly sweet appearance and demeanor, she recounts the story of her car accident using absolutely horrible, foul language. The key to the performance is that she does NOT become angry or aggressive when using the foul language. Instead, she delivers even the most outrageous things in a sweet, gentle, matter-of-fact little-old-lady voice, as though there is absolutely nothing unusual about what she’s saying. She is not trying to be funny. The performance should feel completely sincere and committed. The humor comes from the contrast between this adorable, wholesome grandmother and the shocking things she is saying. We are looking for someone who can really transform into the character both physically and vocally — older voice, smaller/diminutive physicality, and a consistently sweet demeanor. Tone: Deadpan, heightened, quirky comedy with a cinematic, stylized visual approach.
