Emilio and Carmen's grandmother, a warm and loving Puerto Rican woman whose presence represents home, family, and the life Emilio longs to return to. Gentle, affectionate, and nostalgic, Rosa often reminisces about Puerto Rico and happier times with her grandchildren. She experiences moments of confusion and memory loss, occasionally asking about Carmen even after being told she is coming home. Despite her memory lapses, Rosa remains emotionally perceptive and can sense the sadness in Emilio. Her relationship with him provides the emotional heart of the story.
