Host

About the Job

Host a web show where you are the audience's guide through the California Channel Islands, leading an inquiry into the people, cultures, histories, landscapes, and contemporary issues that make the islands an important but often under-recognized part of the California story. Some duties include: Research and preparation: Review background research, archival material, interview briefs, cultural protocols, maps, and technical information before filming. Field hosting: Lead viewers through locations and investigations while maintaining an accessible, conversational narrative. Interviews: Conduct on-camera interviews with Indigenous culture bearers, historians, archaeologists, scientists, residents, conservationists, agency representatives, military personnel and other participants. The Host approaches each location with curiosity rather than presumed expertise, asking questions on behalf of the audience. When appropriate, the Host participates in field activities such as boat travel, hiking, archaeological site visits, etc. Think Josh Gates' "Expedition Unknown" meets Anthony Bourdain's "Parts Unknown" in California.
