While Luis demanded much of their mother's attention, Melvin quietly escaped into movies, books, and popular culture. Funny, imaginative, and endlessly curious, he uses fantasy as a way to cope with the world around him. Beneath his humor is an exceptionally perceptive child who understands more than he allows others to see. He recognizes both Yaque's innocence and the pain driving Luis's behavior, placing him emotionally between his two brothers. The roles handle a prop firearm.
