Mr. Chan
About the Job
He is in his 70s. He is Chinese. The wizened and sometimes grumpy Chinese proprietor of the neighborhood watch shop (think James Hong) is actually the ancient Father Time. His thick accent does nothing to dull his sarcastic quips, but beneath the rough edges is a grandfatherly soul who has seen and experienced far more than is possible in a single lifetime. He is dedicated to preserving the flow of time and fiercely protective of the Father Time mantle, and untrusting of Grace initially. Centuries of disappointment have led him to conclude that no one is worthy of inheriting his responsibility. He’s a sympathetic antagonist—while he works hard to impede Grace’s progress, the audience should understand (and perhaps agree with) his reasoning.
