Sarah
About the Job
A seasoned freelance editor who's spent years cutting for indie directors — and lost most of her enthusiasm for the job somewhere along the way. She's sharp, efficient, and has clearly seen every flavor of self-important filmmaker, including Mikhail, whose "make it cinema" instincts she tolerates more than respects. Sarah's fatigue is what makes her useful: she's not dazzled by Mikhail's theatrics, so she's the first to notice something is genuinely wrong with the footage — and the first to say so, even as he brushes her off. In Umbra Ex Machina, her weary professionalism curdles into real fear as the job stops being just another difficult gig and becomes something she can't edit her way out of.
