TO COVER SOPHIA VANCE, EDITH SINCLAIR, AND: MAMA/MONICA– Matriarch, controlling, owner of the restaurant that’s been in her family since she came to America as a child. Johnny’s mother. Would do anything for her boy, but, at the same time, is always disapproving of his choices. Was once a successful actress (leading lady) herself but gave it up at the height of her fame to raise a family and help her parents with the restaurant (think Vera-Ellen’s career arc, with the face and accent of Sophia Loren). Walks with a cane due to a dancing injury that ended her career.
