JOHN MASON comes from a history of drug abuse—he began his life as a crackbaby. Growing up, he watched his mother dart in and out of his life—mostly out—while she lived a life of dependency—on substances and eventually on him. He made his decision early on to avoid substances of any kind and he was doing a good job until his life caved in. Then, one day, his whole world changed when he took one hit from the crack pipe.
