Mello
'n-word'
About the Job
The scene's center of gravity — an 18-year-old high school senior who has arrived, through his own reasoning, at the conviction that racism is a concept that exists only in the mind. He is not a provocateur. He is a true believer, and that is what makes him dangerous. Baby-faced and outspoken, he wears his convictions as boldly as his streetwear. In the trailer, Mello carries both the scripted dialogue scenes and the visual hero coverage that anchors the V/O narration. The actor must be able to hold a frame and hold a thought simultaneously — the camera will be on him when the film's central idea lands for the first time. This requires presence, not performance. Intelligence in repose. The ability to be young, carefree, and completely serious all at once.
