Description: Margaret has been a gentle and submissive wife who works hard on the farm to support Walter. Her physicality is strong and tough from the years of farm labour through the hot sun and blistering cold. However, after discovering her innermost self to be a man, a part of herself (or shall I say himself) is unlocked. She is the soft masculine. When Margaret is in Brute she is comfortable and confident. Life finally makes sense. When she is in Margaret's skin all of this is stripped from her. She is uncomfortable and frustrated. She feels a sense of loneliness when she’s Margaret as Walter refuses to understand her feelings of gender euphoria. Her whole heart lies within Brute, and she will do anything to get that back. Notes: Strong emotional depth is essential to this character. Must be able to delve into the complexities and grapple gender identity. The character needs to be grounded in reality while dealing with surrealist narratives. Physical theatre experience or understanding is a plus. The ability to learn stunt choreography and apply emotional performance. Female presenting: A farm keep in the 1800s who gradually becomes obsessed with sneaking into her husband's tinkerer shack where she can escape into a dead man's body. Going against her husband several attempts to keep her away from his creation, her desire runs deeper than that. In her heart, she is a man. Looking for an actor who can toe the line between the tough lifestyle of an 1800s farm worker while exploring the emotional depth and empathetic nature of the character. Although empathetic, Margaret is also cunning. Her determination to get into Brute’s body gradually clouds her mind above all else.
