Sixth Avenue Saints
STORY: Set against the gritty, pre-gentrified streets of 1993 New York City, Sixth Avenue Saints follows Luan, a sensitive and imaginative 12-year-old boy growing up in a fractured household in Coney Island. Neglected by his emotionally absent father and forced to care for his struggling mother, Luan spends his days hiding out at an adult video store run by his fathers first wife. Lonely, confused, and desperate for connection, he becomes fascinated by Frankie, a fearless homeless street kid surviving downtown on his own. As the boys form an intense friendship, Frankie introduces Luan to a hidden side of New York - the piers, queer street life, hustlers, junkies, sex workers, and outsiders living on the margins of the city. Together, they drift through a city full of danger, beauty, humor, and possibility, while Luan slowly begins to confront feelings and desires he cannot yet put into words. Blending dark humor, tenderness, and raw emotional realism, Sixth Avenue Saints is a coming-of-age story about identity, survival, friendship, and the search for belonging among societys forgotten people.
