Little Zulema
Zulema, Stay Here
About the Job
LITTLE ZULEMA — MINOR (6-8) Supporting — Major Flashback Role 6 years old. The child version of our protagonist, featured in the film's pivotal opening flashback — a complete, emotionally devastating scene that sets the engine of the entire story. Thin, quiet, watchful; clutches a ragged doll throughout. Over one continuous sequence she watches her mother pack to leave, slowly realizes she is being left behind while her baby brother is taken, and fights — with a child's logic and a breaking heart — to be chosen (“Then take me.” “Why him?” “Don't say that if it's not true.”). This is a substantial, dialogue-heavy dramatic role, NOT a background child part. Requires a young actor who can carry raw, restrained heartbreak and hold the screen opposite adult actors. Largely the emotional foundation the audience returns to again and again. MAJOR child role — NOT background.
