The story follows Daniel, a young man from a wealthy family who enlists in the military despite the shallow objections of his girlfriend, Brittany Hayes, who is more concerned with her Instagram image and his father's $40-million company than his service. Nine months later, Daniel returns home having lost both legs in combat and his immediate inheritance, leading Brittany to callously break up with him because he no longer fits her "plan" for a high-status life. Throughout his grueling recovery, Daniel is supported by Jade Kim, a nursing student who witnessed their initial argument and stayed by his side for months without pay. Ultimately, Daniel successfully learns to walk on titanium prosthetics and founds his own logistics company. When Brittany attempts to crawl back into his life after her own social climb fails, Daniel firmly rejects her, choosing to stay with Jade—the woman who stood by him when he had nothing.
