About the Job
MUST BE SOUTHEAST / BRISBANE / GOLD COAST LOCAL HIRE. The Thai Porter’s Daughter is a woman born into extreme poverty and survival, forced to work beside her father carrying drug shipments through dangerous jungle territory controlled by armed men. She has no dialogue in the scene, so the performance relies entirely on facial expression, physical behaviour, and emotional truthfulness. The character should feel grounded and authentic — like a real woman who has spent her life around fear, exploitation, and instability. She understands the danger of the Soldier immediately and has likely witnessed violence before, which is why much of her emotion is internalised rather than openly expressed. When the meth spills from the bag, her reaction should not be melodramatic but instant survival panic, knowing something terrible may happen before a word is even spoken. Her relationship with her father is central to the scene; she instinctively moves to help him, protect him, and support him under the pressure of their situation. After the Soldier shoots him, her grief should feel raw, shocked, and primal like someone whose world collapses in a single moment. The role requires strong naturalistic acting instincts and comfort with silence, where every glance and hesitation carries emotional meaning. She represents the innocent civilian cost of the criminal world operating beneath the film’s adventure-tourism surface.
