About the Job
Our main character's mother appears post mortem, having taken her life at the age of 38 by hanging. Despite her lifelong struggles with mental health and poverty, she worked hard to give her son Jonas, what he needed. She loved him deeply, as a single mother they were very attached. She was gritty and tough and had a profound sadness that seemed to linger all her life. She was empathetic and kind to the bitter end. While it is true she struggled with mental illness, Jonas comes to find the things she was seeing and hearing may have been real, and now they’re coming for him. Perhaps her suicide was her only escape from a creature trying to take her life…and her son.
