Mateo
At Home Visit: A Social Work 360 Pov Experience
About the Job
Older child. Actors of all backgrounds are encouraged to submit; however, for story and realism purposes, seeking an actor who reads as racially ambiguous, black, latino, and does not read as white on screen. For this role, the actor should read younger on screen (not a teen), though the performer may be older. Mateo is a quietly responsible and emotionally observant child. He has become "parentified," often stepping in to care for his infant brother, Luca, when his mother is tired or incapacitated. He protects his mother and is afraid to say the wrong thing to authorities, but internally misses the freedom to just be a kid. The performance should be natural and grounded, avoiding overly dramatic or “too mature” actor tropes.
