About the Job

Christa McAuliffe was a school teacher from New Hampshire who, in 1985, was chosen out of 11,000 applicants to be the first ever teacher in space for STS-51-L space mission aboard the Challenger. During the launch in 1986, she and her fellow crew members aboard the ship all tragically passed away due to the ship breaking apart a mere 73 seconds after launching.
