About the Job

Aiden Brantley is not a villain—and that’s what makes him unsettling. He is self-aware, articulate and deeply conflict-avoidant. He believes he is choosing the “least harmful path and intellectualizes cowardice as a successful strategy. He is emotionally intelligent enough to narrate his flaws, but not brave enough to confront them directly. What plagues Aiden is his fear of being labeled the bad guy and the extreme lengths he will go to avoid being perceived as one. CURRENT SITUATION (WHEN WE MEET HIM) Aiden has just been kicked out of his girlfriend’s apartment in Long Island City after months of passive disengagement. The breakup went exactly as he planned—except for one thing. A video. His friends, helping him move, jokingly sang the chorus to Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” while he smiled in the background. The video circulated and went viral. His ex saw it and it enraged her that he was so happy in moving on from their relationship. Now Aiden is riding in HALYTE’s car, bracing for the fallout. WHAT IS PLAGUING HIM (CORE CONFLICT) Aiden is plagued by the fear of her retaliation.
