Aster Kebede is a patient at Safe Harbor In-Patient Psychiatric Center in South Central, Los Angeles. She is diagnosed with Bipolar Type 1 and Anorexia from a refusal to eat food. She was initially involuntarily admitted after an attempted suicide that her teenage daughter was present for. On occasion she has severe panic attacks as well. She rarely has contact with her daughter or husband but cherishes every opportunity she gets with either of them. She doesn’t have many friends at the hospital and spends most of her time drawing or doing crafts. She has been taken off of her dose of lithium after an exam indicated it was causing her kidney damage. She loves music and dance as it permits her a brief relief from her depressive symptoms. She hopes to find the right medications and treatment plan, and joins a dance and movement therapy class, so she can return to her life with her husband and repair her relationship with her distant daughter.
