About the Job

Layla (50s-60s) is a first-generation immigrant from Iran leaving in the US. Her life has been defined by sacrifice and survival. Fiercely protective of her daughter, Masha, she appears rigid and cold to the outside world, but beneath that exterior lies a profound and overwhelming love. Her strictness and control stem from fear, fear that her daughter might repeat her struggles, or lose the chance at a better life. Layla speaks Farsi, though she never uses it in public, not even with her daughter. Actress must be fluent in Farsi, it's our intention to cast as authentic as possible. /Must embody emotional depth and nuance: balancing icy resolve with raw vulnerability. / Ability to convey pain and love through silence is essential.
