Young Mulu Bekele is an oil rig manager in Ethiopia. An ambitious and highly intelligent young man raised in the rural parts of Ethiopia and excelled in school because of a firm goal to take him and his ailing mother out of poverty. However, he still is not making anywhere near the income that he dreams of. He is loyal to his mother, close male friends, and deeply in love with a young, wealthy girl named Aster because of her compassionate and sincere nature. He greatly admires her similarly ambitious goals for her career and progressive political worldview. Mulu plans on proposing to Aster on the night we meet him.
