About the Job
Michael is the son, very much his mother’s boy at the beginning: cocky, materialistic, and obsessed with his future status. He’s thrilled by Jamie’s promises of a job at the petrochemical plant, a Porsche, and the social clout that comes with an “executive director mom.” At first he mocks Mark’s lack of visible income, pushes for a name change to “Bond,” and enjoys humiliating his father. As the story unfolds, he’s forced to confront the reality that the chairman he worships is actually his own dad—and that the life he’s been sneering at could have been his inheritance all along. Like Emma, he shifts from arrogance to repentance, eventually kneeling to apologize and later trying to get his mother to face the truth about Mark’s identity.
