Katie is a Denver resident attending a dinner party with her long-time partner Ben at the home he grew up in, which is now owned by his sister Mel, with whom Katie is also close. Like both Ben and Mel, Katie is expecting a tense affair due to recent family tragedy and a series of lifelong conflicts seemingly on the verge of explosion. Katie is no stranger to family disharmony, both from her work at SAMHSA and from having severed relationships with her family of origin in the past, but she is here to support her partner and her friend in the ways they need to get through this evening. Though she is in a long-term, committed relationship with a straight man, Katie identifies as queer / pansexual and has dated people of different gender identities in the past.
