Bluebottle

On the final night of Schoolies, a rag-tag trio of high school dropouts disguise themselves as private school boys in order to attract visiting private school girls. They steal a boat named ‘Bluebottle’ to complete the illusion, and after encountering a trio of affluent girls on a private beach, three boozy love stories unfurl simultaneously. The unlikely couple at the centre of our story is Rudy (m, 16), a shy fisherman with a crushing phobia of women, and Kel (f, 18), the sheltered dux of her school with an outspoken distrust of men. The group relocate to Kel’s luxurious beach house, but they’re soon interrupted by a knock at the door. Three charismatic older men invite themselves in to join the party, each angling for a different girl. When Rudy confronts their impossibly handsome leader, Fanning (m, 25), it’s revealed they’re the owners of the stolen boat - they’ve come for the vessel but are staying for the girls. So Rudy proposes a wager; whoever wins the affection of Kel, wins the night, and keeps the boat. The games are on, and a fuse has been lit on a testosterone powder keg. Violence will erupt before the night is over in spectacular fashion. Friendships will be tested to their absolute limits, a new villain will rear their head, and Rudy will be faced with an inevitable, horrifying question... What kind of man does he want to be? A film about the masks men wear to be with women, and the masks women wear to escape men.
