The younger version of Rosa who exists throughout Rosa's memories. She is a loving Mexican mother whom we experience at several stages of her daughter's childhood. At first she is vibrant, warm and full of life. We see her hold her baby, forgive her six-year-old daughter after breaking something, and dance wildly with her teenage daughter. But these beautiful memories gradually become terrifying as Rosa realizes she can no longer remember her daughter's face. Young Rosa becomes the emotional vessel through which we experience Rosa's memory loss. The actress needs to move convincingly between maternal warmth, joy, confusion, fear, desperation and eventually overwhelming love. Unlike 90-year-old Rosa, this is a highly physical performance: holding a baby, kneeling, running, dancing, spinning, embracing her daughter and moving through surreal environments. Looking for: Strong dramatic actress with expressive eyes and an emotionally open performance style. She should have an effortless maternal quality while still feeling youthful, energetic and playful. Must be comfortable dancing. Formal dance training is NOT necessary—the dancing should feel spontaneous and imperfect.
