Project Details
Inspired by the true events of Private Henry Johnson, this Afro-Surrealist short follows Private Henry Johnson and Needham Roberts as they are on sentry duty in wartorn France during World War I. While grappling with the reality of the racial injustice they will still face upon their return home, Henry is wounded by enemy German soldiers. Henry becomes trapped within his own subconscious, where a mysterious figure known as the Inkman, a manifestation of Jim Crow-era oppression, forces him to confront painful memories and question what he is fighting for. As Henry journeys through his mind, he must reclaim his sense of purpose in order to save his fellow soldier and himself.
