Miryo
About the Job
Late 20s-early 30s, East Asian (playing a Korean American character). Female presenting. Must be able to speak English fluently. Estimated: 3 shooting days Lean with long black hair, Miryo exists in two registers: the controlled, elegant woman who works for Mr. Park's operation as a karaoke hostess/escort and the gumiho, the ancient Korean fox spirit, who wears that woman as a disguise. She is methodical, self-contained, and performatively composed. Underneath is a hunger she cannot domesticate: for human flesh, but also for intimacy, identity, and the unburdened life she sacrificed long ago. From her bare apartment to her cold encounters with her co-workers, we can tell she is lonely and resigned to going through the motions in a life that feels like it was chosen for her. When she meets Jin, she is immediately drawn to what the aspiring actress represents: unbridled naivete, youth, and hopefulness. Miryo’s attraction to Jin is tied up with her craving for a newer, shinier life and she won’t be able to contain her hunger for much longer. Asocial and quiet by habit, Miryo’s desires can be seen clearest in her intense gaze and body language.
