We are seeking an African American male performer aged 32–45 for the lead role of Derrick in The Girl Trapped on Mars. Derrick is the most complex role in the script — a man who is genuinely warm and trying to hold his family together while being the source of its unraveling. The role requires a performer who can play charm and danger without telegraphing either one. Discipline and nuance are essential — the audience must believe in the version of Derrick who books vacations before they encounter the version who comes later. Role includes scenes of domestic violence, all handled with a qualified intimacy and safety coordinator present. Derrick requires extensive special effects makeup in the film's final sequence to create a distorted, zombie-like appearance — performer must be comfortable with a prolonged SFX makeup application and prosthetic elements. The actor will also be present on set during scenes involving a non-firing replica firearm. Film or television experience strongly preferred.
