About the Job

Female, mid to late 60s. Height 5'6 or taller. With brown eyes. Long hair preferred. Joan is Vivian and Jade's mother. She is a woman whose presence lingers long after she’s gone. Once vibrant and magnetic, life has worn grooves into her. Grief, addiction, and unresolved pain sit just beneath the surface. She carries the weight of a complicated past, but traces of warmth, humor, and maternal instinct still flicker through the cracks. This role relies heavily on subtle emotional shifts, internal life, and screen presence. Joan appears briefly but her essence echoes throughout the entire film, shaping the emotional gravity of the story. The performance must communicate history, regret, and love with very little said. For context, Joan's struggles stem from profound grief following the sudden death of her husband 21 years ago, Jade and Vivian's father, who was killed in the line of duty while serving in law enforcement. Important. This role contains no dialogue in the film. The actor must be able to convey depth, vulnerability, and nuance through expression, physicality, and stillness.
